hey this is rather nice. I like the mood, and the angle is interesting, too. I like how we are looking up into the umbrella, whereas most people would probably draw it from the outside. The face is really sweet. Anatomically, i think the arms a little bit too long, and the shape of the torso could do with more defined muscles and bone structure. Its kind of hard to tell whether this is a boy or a girl, because of the shape (unless that was intentional?)

Thanks for the critique! I like getting them. Anyway I will admit I do still struggle with drawing correct anatomy, I usually use a wooden model, but I didn't have it at the time I used it.

have you ever used a mirror? I often use one to help get the proportions right (even when the character being drawn is the opposite gender it can still help to get the right angles etc.) other than that, photos are a good idea, you could try searching on the net for a photo of someone doing a similar pose to the one you're drawing : )

I use a mirror sometimes. Photos are good too? I once had someone tell me that drawing from photos is bad. But I still use them, I personally wish I had my own camera so I can make my poses.

i think using photos can be bad, because of the danger of getting carried away with copying, especially for an unskilled artist who might not take into consideration that the model in a photo has foreshortening or lighting on them that wouldn't be appropriate for their own picture. but i think using a photo can be okay, if you're careful how you use it and use it only as a guide.
